As of yesterday (03.05.23), I have been in sustained recovery for 20 (TWENTY!) years. That’s longer than my years of active addiction.
I took my first opiate at 8, began using heroin at 13, and struggled for 15 years with addiction.
I don’t know if I can accurately articulate how impossible that felt for the young woman in that photo up there 👆.
